John Goodrich—newly qualified in mechanical engineering—buys his first used turret punch with a $5,000 loan from his mother. He refurbishes the machine and sells it on for a small profit.
Building on his early momentum, John founds Goodrich Engineering & Machinery, sourcing and personally refurbishing equipment for Australian manufacturers.
The business grows steadily, culminating in a purpose-built facility for sales and service—where one of its showrooms remains to this day.
Partnerships are established with leading Japanese manufacturers at the forefront of laser technology, including Amada and Mitsubishi.
The business becomes one of the first in Australia to install and service laser equipment, including systems from Bystronic and Trumpf.
Intermach expands into New Zealand, opening its first international operation.
Raised in the factory his father established, Alex Goodrich steps into a leadership role to drive the company’s evolution.
