1983
The First machine
John Goodrich—newly qualified in mechanical engineering—buys his first used metal lathe with a loan from his friend. He refurbishes the machine and sells it on for a small profit.
1985
Foundation
Building on his early momentum, John founds Goodrich Engineering & Machinery, sourcing and personally refurbishing equipment for Australian manufacturers.
Early 1990s
Scale
The business grows steadily, culminating in a purpose-built facility for sales and service—where one of its showrooms remains to this day.
Mid 1990s
Tech Partnerships
Partnerships are established with leading European and Japanese manufacturers at the forefront of laser technology, including Amada, Trumpf, Mitsubishi, Murata and Toshiba.
Late 1990s–2000s
Laser Pioneer
The business becomes one of the first in Australia to install and service used laser and CNC punching machines, including systems from Amada, Bystronic and Trumpf.
2007
International Expansion
The business opens its first international operation, expanding into New Zealand.
2015
Next Generation
Raised in the factory his father established, Alex Goodrich steps into a leadership role — driving the next chapter as the business launches the Intermach brand, focused on precision fibre laser, bending and automation.
2020
100 Lasers
Intermach reaches a major milestone, installing and servicing 100 fibre laser machines across Australia.

Han’s Laser Exclusive
Han’s Laser, the world’s leading manufacturer, awards Intermach exclusive distribution rights across Australia and New Zealand.
